The history of the First medical faculty is inseparably connected with the foundation of Crimea State medical university named after S. I. Georgievsky. The first enrolment of students to the faculty was made in 1931, and in 1936 first doctors graduated from the University.

At different time the faculty was headed by prominent scientists and organizers, each of them made his contribution into the development of the University. The first dean of the faculty was Professor V. M. Totsky. He held office for 24 years. Then the faculty was directed by Professors V. I. Tomilov, N. S. Kuznetsov, S. N. Krutikov, assistant Professor V. P. Shurygin. During the last 24 years the dean of the faculty has been Honoured Worker of Higher School of Ukraine, Professor A. I. Kradinov.

Students are taught according to the curriculum and programs by Ministry of Health of Russia. In the first and second years students study humanitarian and fundamental subjects, which are the basis for medical knowledge acquired during the following years.

Students’ clinical knowledge – diagnostics and treatment of patients, practical skills – is of particular significance. Beginning from the third year and till graduation from the University at practical classes and during summer practical training, students work with patients, master and use modern methods of diagnostics and treatment. An important form of check up of students’ knowledge is a testing frame, elaborated and introduced at the University, with a set of tests to meet the requirements of licensing examinations.

The dean’s office maintains close contact with graduates, most of them increase their skills at the University faculty of post-graduate education. Doctors – graduates of the faculty have a high rating among the specialists graduated from other higher schools. They satisfy the requirements of our region in appropriate specialists completely and hold offices according to their qualification.

At the faculty where about 700 students are taught, there are all the necessary conditions for successful training and researches. Clinical departments of the faculty are situated on base of large medical institutions of Simferopol, equipped with modern diagnostic facilities. Every department of the faculty is a scientific collective, which gets the most talented students, members of students’ scientific societies to take part in scientific investigations. That is why future research workers master special skills already when students, and annual students’ scientific conferences take place in overcrowded lecture halls.

Modern computer technologies are widely used in instruction, students having the possibility to examine patients in computer x-ray rooms, to study functional and anatomical changes of different organs in different diseases with help of cameras under the guidance of teachers. Students may use ultrasonographs, powerful sources of radiation for radiotherapy of malignant tumors, endoscopic and endosurgical equipment, etc.

Heads of clinical departments, Professors V. M. Efetov, L. V. Dudar, V. F. Kubyshkin, A. I. Kradinov, V. V. Mogila, N. N. Volobuyev, A. N. Rybalka, G. M. Kushnir and others keep and enhance great traditions of Russian clinical medicine, embracing sympathy with a suffering person, the attitude, which can be expressed by the word «charity». This word was often repeated in lectures and speeches of N. І. Pirogov and other prominent doctors of the past and takes on particular significance today.
